토론토 동물원에서 멸종위기 난쟁이 하마 탄생

A tiny baby hippo just arrived in the world—and the Toronto Zoo could not be more happy.

Small is beautiful. The mother pygmy hippopotamus gave birth about one week ago. This was not easy work. She worked hard for one and one half hours. Then tiny feet appeared. The small calf was finally here.

Did you know what happened next? The baby hippo stood up. It took only 15 minutes. The little animal was already trying to walk. You can see the calf moving around its mother now. It is learning every day.

Why does this matter? Pygmy hippos are endangered. This means there are not many left in the wild. They live in Africa. Their home is disappearing. Rain forests are becoming smaller. These animals need help. The Toronto Zoo is doing important work. Baby animals like this one give us hope.

Zoos work together around the world. They share animals. They share knowledge. They work to save endangered species. Each new baby is a victory. This new calf is a victory for the whole world.

The zoo will let visitors see the baby soon. You can watch the baby grow. You can learn about pygmy hippos. You can understand why we must protect these animals.
