Hot rock under ground could power your home

Did you know that under the ground, the Earth is very hot? In some places, it is so hot that water becomes steam. This steam can make energy for your home and your city. We call this geothermal energy.

Geothermal energy is clean. It does not make smoke. It does not hurt the air. Many scientists like this energy very much. But there is a big problem: it is very hard and very expensive to find it and dig for it.

Right now, some new companies are trying a different idea. They want to make it easier to dig for geothermal energy. They use new machines and new plans. Some of these new ideas are very smart and creative.

But money is still the big question. To dig deep into the ground costs a lot of money. Companies need to spend millions of dollars before they can sell any energy. This makes many people worried. If the money is too much, companies will stop trying.

However, more and more people want clean energy now. They do not want to burn coal or oil. If we can make geothermal energy cheaper, it could be very good for our world. It could help our cities and towns have power for many, many years.

So here is the question: can these new companies make geothermal energy cheaper? What do you think? Would you like to see geothermal energy where you live?
