English pubs now accept phone apps to prove your age

Imagine you want to buy a drink at a pub in England or Wales. You reach for your phone instead of your wallet. Starting this week, that is now possible.

New rules allow pubs and bars to accept digital ID apps. These apps show your age on your phone. You do not need a physical ID card anymore.

What is a digital ID app? It is a program on your smartphone. The app holds your personal information. It shows your name, photo, and birth date. The app is official and secure. The government approves these apps.

Why is this change important? Many young people do not carry physical ID cards. They carry phones everywhere. A digital ID app is faster and easier. Bar workers can check your age in seconds. You do not need to search in your bag or wallet.

But physical ID is still welcome. Pubs can accept both types. Some people prefer old-style cards. Some prefer apps. Businesses can choose what works best for them.

This change happened in England and Wales this week. It makes life easier for customers and staff. Young adults can go out with just a phone. Pubs can serve customers faster.

Does your country use digital ID apps? Would you use one instead of a physical card? Many people around the world now use digital identification. It is becoming normal in more and more places.
