PlayStation stops selling game discs in 2028

Imagine walking into a game store in 2028. You pick up a PlayStation game box. You open it. Inside is no disc. Instead, you find a card with a code. You go home and type this code into your PlayStation. The game downloads to your console. This is the future PlayStation has planned.

PlayStation announced a big change recently. The company will stop making game discs in 2028. This means no more physical discs like we know today. But games will not disappear from stores. Stores will still sell PlayStation games. Players can still buy them in person.

Here is how the new system works. Games will come in boxes. These boxes will look similar to today's boxes. But inside will be a small card or paper. This card holds a digital code. You type this code into your PlayStation console online. Then your game downloads directly to your machine. No disc needed. No disc player needed.

Why is PlayStation making this change? The world is moving toward digital. More people download games instead of buying discs. Digital games are fast and simple. You do not need to change discs. The code is small and light. It is easy to ship and store. Digital games also create less waste for the environment.

Some players feel worried about this change. They like having physical discs. Discs are something you own. They sit on your shelf. You can trade them or sell them to friends. Digital codes are different. You cannot hold them in your hand. But PlayStation says this is progress. Many gaming companies are moving this way.

So what does this mean for you? If you play PlayStation, you will keep playing games. Your games will work the same way. The only difference is how you buy them. Instead of a disc, you get a code. Instead of a machine that reads discs, you use the internet. Is this a change you would welcome? Or do you miss the days of holding a game disc in your hands?
