Halley's Comet dust creates shooting stars this week
AI가 레벨별로 작성한 세계 뉴스 · World news, written by AI at each level
Did you know that a comet visits Earth every 76 years? Halley's Comet is one of the most famous ones. When it flies near Earth, it leaves a trail of dust and rock. This week, our planet moves through that trail.
When Earth passes through the comet's dust, something amazing happens. The dust falls toward our planet. The air gets very hot. The dust burns bright. We see shooting stars! These shooting stars are called the Orionid meteor shower.
The meteor shower has a special name. It is named after the star pattern Orion. Orion is easy to see in the night sky. The shooting stars seem to come from the direction of Orion. That is why we call them Orionid meteors.
October is the best month to watch. The peak night is usually around October 20. On peak night, you might see many meteors. Maybe 10 or 15 every hour! But you can see meteors all week.
How can you watch? It is simple. Go outside at night. Find a dark place away from city lights. Lie down and look up. Bring a blanket or a chair. Be patient and wait. Your eyes need about 20 minutes to adjust to the dark. Then you will see the shooting stars!
This is a chance to feel connected to space. You are looking at pieces of a comet that is millions of years old. The same comet visited Earth in the 1980s. It will return again in 2061. For now, just enjoy the show this week.
What is your favorite time of night to look at the sky? Tell someone about the meteors you see!
