Cameraman films rare humpback whale in Welsh waters

Imagine you do the same job for twenty years. You think you have seen everything. Then one day, something stops you cold.

This happened to Dan Abbot. He is a wildlife cameraman. His job is to film animals in the wild. He goes to many places and sees many creatures. Birds, fish, insects — he knows them well.

One day, Dan was working in Welsh waters. This is near Wales, a country in the United Kingdom. The sea there is usually cold and quiet. Dan saw something move in the water. At first, he did not know what it was. Then he realized — it was a humpback whale!

Humpback whales are very large. They can be as long as a bus. They live in many oceans around the world. But they are rare in Welsh waters. Dan was very surprised. Even though he films animals every day, he was not ready for this.

Why was this so special? Humpback whales usually live far from Wales. They swim in warmer waters far away. When they come to Welsh waters, it is unusual. Maybe the whale was lost. Maybe it was looking for food. Nobody knows for sure.

Dan felt lucky. He got to film something amazing. He also learned something important. Even when you know a lot, nature can still surprise you. The world is full of secrets.
