여름 첫 보름달 '딸기달'이 떠오른다

Have you ever noticed that the moon looks bigger and brighter at certain times of the year? This week, you will have a chance to see something truly special. The first full moon of summer is rising across the sky, and people are calling it the Strawberry Moon.

But why "strawberry"? The name has nothing to do with the color of the moon. Instead, it comes from an ancient tradition. Long ago, farmers used the moon's position to know when to harvest strawberries. This moon marked the perfect time to pick the fruit. Native Americans and early settlers in North America created this name hundreds of years ago, and people still use it today.

The Strawberry Moon will appear full and bright throughout the night. Depending on where you live, the exact time might change. If you are in the UK, the moon will reach its peak brightness at a specific moment this week. You do not need any special equipment to see it. Your eyes are enough. Simply find a place with a clear view of the sky, away from bright city lights if possible.

Why does the moon sometimes look so large and bright? This happens because of the moon's orbit, or path around Earth. When the moon is closest to our planet, it looks bigger and more brilliant. This makes the full moon feel almost magical. Many people photograph it or simply sit outside and admire the view. Some cultures have special traditions or celebrations connected to specific full moons throughout the year.

The Strawberry Moon is a gentle reminder that we live on a planet connected to the cosmos. Taking time to observe the night sky can be calming and inspiring. Whether you are alone or with friends and family, watching the moon rise is a simple pleasure that costs nothing. It is one of those rare moments where everyone on Earth, from the UK to Korea, can look up and see the same beautiful object shining above them.

So this week, make a plan. Set aside a few minutes in the evening. Step outside, look up, and let the Strawberry Moon remind you of the natural wonders that surround us every day.
