A study found that four days of heavy rain killed about 7% of a very rare orangutan group

Orangutans are very special animals. They live in rainforests in Southeast Asia. One type of orangutan is very rare. Scientists found bad news about this rare group.

Four days of heavy rain fell in one region. The rain was very strong and dangerous. This rain killed many orangutans. About 7% of this rare group died. This number is very large for a small population.

Scientists say climate change causes this problem. The weather is becoming more extreme. Heavy rains come faster and harder now. The rains cause trees to fall. Trees kill orangutans when they fall. Orangutans have no place to escape.

Orangutans need forests to live. They eat fruit from trees. They sleep in trees at night. When rain destroys forests, orangutans die. They cannot find food or shelter. Young orangutans are most at risk.

This study shows a big problem. One event killed many rare animals. Scientists worry about the future. If extreme weather continues, more orangutans will die. The world must act to stop climate change. We must protect these animals and their forests.
