Hasina risks returning to Bangladesh despite death penalty conviction

Sometimes a person makes a very hard choice. A 78-year-old woman named Hasina is thinking about returning to her home country, Bangladesh. She left the country after big problems happened there in 2024.

Hasina was the leader of Bangladesh for many years. In 2024, many people protested against her government. During these protests, many people died. Hasina's government was blamed for these deaths. She left Bangladesh and went to another country to be safe.

Now, the Bangladesh government says Hasina did bad things. They say she did not protect people during the protests. She has been convicted of crimes against humanity. This is a very serious charge. The court says she might get the death penalty — the highest punishment.

But Hasina still wants to go home. This is interesting and risky. If she returns, she could be arrested and face trial. She could lose her life. But Bangladesh is her home. She lived there her whole life.

Many people are watching this story. Some people want her to come back and face the court. Other people think it is too dangerous for her. Nobody knows what she will do next.

Hasina's choice is very difficult. Going home means facing big danger. But staying away means she cannot defend herself. What would you do in her situation?
