Governments lower electric car targets after pressure from makers

Did you know that the air in your city might be very different in ten years?

Many governments around the world made big promises. They said that by 2030, most new cars sold must be electric. Eight out of ten new cars — that was the goal. This would help clean the air and stop pollution.

But car makers say there is a problem. They say they cannot make this happen. The factories are not ready. Workers need to learn new skills. The cost is too high right now. These are real challenges.

Because of this pressure from car companies, some governments are now thinking about changing their plans. Instead of eight out of ten cars, maybe only five out of ten cars need to be electric by 2030. This is a much easier goal.

Why does this matter? When governments make targets easier, it means change will happen more slowly. Electric cars will take longer to become normal. The air will stay dirty for more years. But car makers will have more time to prepare their factories and train their workers.

This is a good example of how business and government work together. Sometimes rules need to fit reality. But sometimes, making things easier means we stop progress.
