호주 조종사들, 남극의 완전한 어둠 속으로 맹목적 비행

Imagine flying a plane when you cannot see anything outside. The sky is black. The ground is black. Everything around you is darkness. This is what Australian pilots did in Antarctica during winter.

A person at McMurdo Station became very sick. McMurdo Station is a research place in Antarctica. The person needed help quickly. But Antarctica in winter is one of the most dangerous places on Earth. The sun does not rise for months. The temperature was -43°C. This is so cold that metal breaks easily.

The Australian crew said yes to the rescue. They flew their plane to Antarctica in total darkness. Flying in darkness is very difficult and scary. The pilots could not see the land below them. They used special equipment to find the station. When they landed, ice covered everything. The plane touched down safely on the ice.

The sick person came onto the plane. The crew helped them quickly. Then the pilots flew back home with their patient. The whole team was brave and calm. They trained for many years for difficult jobs like this.

This rescue shows us something important. When people work together and stay calm, they can do amazing things. Even in the darkest and coldest place, humans can help each other. The pilots and crew put their own safety second. They thought only about saving a life.

Have you ever done something difficult and scary? What helped you stay brave?
