Imagine arriving by ship to New York in 1900, carrying everything you own in one bag. The first thing you see is the Statue of Liberty — a massive copper figure holding a torch over the harbour. For millions of immigrants, she was the first sign that they had arrived somewhere new, somewhere full of possibility.
1900년에 배를 타고 뉴욕에 도착한다고 상상해 보세요. 가진 것은 가방 하나뿐이에요. 제일 먼저 보이는 건 자유의 여신상 — 항구 위로 횃불을 들고 있는 거대한 구리 조각상이에요. 수백만 명의 이민자에게 여신상은 새로운 곳, 가능성으로 가득한 곳에 도착했다는 첫 번째 신호였어요.
